Job experience
About me
I’m Olivier Mathijssen, a Dutch designer and developer who recently earned a Master’s degree in Interaction Technology at the University of Twente. I have a broad expertise spanning design, hardware, and software engineering. You can explore my academic background and obtained results in the Master’s program in Interaction Technology here and the Bachelor’s program in Creative Technology here.
When it comes to the design and development of technology, I believe function should come first, whatever that function may be. A product might need to be engaging, reliable, or serve as a social stimulant, but it will only be successful if it fulfills its purpose. In all cases, creating meaningful technology requires clearly defining its function and designing with that in mind.
This focus on functionality doesn’t exclude playfulness or creative exploration. In fact, I believe the best ideas come from a curious mix of influences, drawn from careful observation of the world around us. When exploring new ideas, I strive to test the most minimal version possible in a critical setting, seeking usable feedback about whether it achieves its intended purpose. My process is grounded in evidence rather than speculation, with a strong emphasis on efficiency, minimizing resources and effort to move ideas forward. Above all, I believe in remaining neutral and adaptable, every good idea needs space to evolve.
